Nippy: the fox leaves Paul Gascoigne standing at Celtic Park
last night during a 90-second delay. The England midfielder
went on to miss a penalty
"The night Gascoigne was completely out-foxed"

THE Glasgow derby between Celtic and Rangers was interrupted last
night when a fox ran on to the pitch at Celtic Park. The animal
appeared just as Celtic was poised to take a corner kick. The
referee, Hugh Dallas, suspended play as the players waited for it to
run off. The fox then did a lap of honour round the ground to cheers
from the crowd before disappearing. Play resumed after a delay of 90
seconds. The match was won 1-0 by Rangers, after Paul Gascoigne, for
Rangers, and Pierre Van Hooydonk, for Celtic, both missed penalties.
The incident is not the first time a first-class football match has
been interrupted by unlikely pitch invasions by wildlife. Jurgen
Klinsman's debut for Tottenham Hotspur at Vicarage Road, Watford, was
held up when a weasel ran half the length of the pitch.
